Dimora delle Balze...

Dimora delle Balze: A 19th-Century Estate Reimagined for Modern Luxury

What can you really say to describe a place like this? Perhaps it’s best to borrow their own words: “Have you ever thought of living in a movie?”

Dimora delle Balze is a hotel that is at once rustic, elegant and impossibly beautiful. All at the same time. Located in Val di Noto in southeastern Sicily, this estate dates back to 1886. It is a classic Sicilian beauty, rich in history and surrounded by nature, overlooking the valley and the Manghisi river.

This hotel is a restored farmhouse, now transformed into a refined and luxurious retreat with beautiful design and interiors. It has been featured in several well-known magazines such as Elle Decoration, RUM, Marie Claire, Vogue Australia, AD and many more — and for good reason.

We can honestly say this is one of the most beautiful places we have stayed in Sicily. It also ranks among the top five dining experiences we’ve had on the island.

A dining experience we won’t forget…

Dimora delle Balze opened its restaurant to non-resident guests for the first time in Easter 2025, and we were among the first to visit at the start of the season in March. In the 2026 season they will only be open for dinner reservations for guests not staying in the hotel.

We had decided on lunch — a seven-course tasting menu called The Contemporary. And what an experience it was. We were served dishes we had never seen or tasted before. The presentation was just as impressive as the flavours — a true feast for both the eyes and the palate. The Lumia restaurant is organic, and serves authentic sicilian gastronomy, where one can experience farm-to-table in it's real sense.

We met Erika, the hotel’s sommelier, who with great knowledge and enthusiasm not only guided us through the wine selection, but also showed us around the entire property and shared the story behind Dimora delle Balze.

We were completely captivated by this place, and we can honestly say: if you are considering lunch or dinner here — don’t hesitate. It is worth every euro, and an experience you won’t want to miss.

One of our absolute best culinary experiences in Sicily. That says it all…

Dimora delle Balze is a place we can’t recommend enough—we were completely captivated. A historical estate dating back to 1886 near Palazzolo Acreide and Noto, it offers one of the finest dining experiences we’ve had on the island. The property also serves as a fantastic base for exploring the Baroque gems of Southeast Sicily, such as Noto, Modica, and Palazzolo Acreide.
