Italian Breakfast, Served with Pride
Every morning, Manlio serves you a proper, classic Italian breakfast — with real pride. And if you give him a task, he will more or less move mountains to get it done. We experienced this first-hand when we tried to book a day at Le Calette Reef Club. It turned out to be completely impossible to get a spot when we tried on our own — fully booked. But Manlio didn't give up. He picked up the phone and told the person on the other end that he knew the hotel owner personally — they had grown up together — and that his guests needed a place. We got a spot. Not just any spot. One of the best tables on the terrace, front row at the water. We had the best day at the beach club in Kalura Bay. Grazie mille, Manlio. Pool and wonderfully quiet
Donna Carolina has just a few rooms, but they are luxurious and beautifully decorated. It's a quiet, calm place that naturally invites a private and personal experience. There's a lovely swimming pool and a small kiosk by the pool that's open for a few hours each day, where you can pick up light snacks and drinks while you swim or sunbathe.
Donna Carolina doesn't serve food beyond breakfast, so you'll need to drive down to Cefalù or to the nearest mountain village when it's time for dinner. This is our favourite restaurants in Cefalù - places we keep coming back to.
Day Trips from Donna Carolina
We took several day trips by car to the nearby villages of Castelbuono and Gratteri — small, beautiful mountain villages where life moves at a much slower pace than in the larger towns. The drives up through the mountains are a beautiful experience in themselves. The views from up here are extraordinary.
Madonie National Park - right outside the door
We also visited the forests of Madonie National Park, walking a long trail in search of the famous ancient holly trees — some of them hundreds of years old, and among the oldest in the world. We were not disappointed. Standing beneath one of those enormous trees is an experience unlike anything else.
Beautiful forests, open plains and walking trails with views that are unlike anything else in Sicily. Perfect if you enjoy hiking through woodland in the shade of ancient trees.

For us, the location of this place was something special. Secluded, surrounded by nature, and just 20 minutes from Cefalù. There's a private kind of luxury here — it feels almost like visiting old friends. Quiet days by the pool, walks in the nature around the property. And the proximity to the Madonie mountains and the small villages makes Donna Carolina a genuinely unique place to stay. Best suited for couples, not young children.
Where in Sicily is Donna Carolina?
Donna Carolina is 20 minutes from Cefalù, up in the hills toward the Madonie National Park in northern Sicily. A car is essential here, but that opens up a lot of possibilities for exploring the surrounding area. As elsewhere in Sicily, we'd recommend renting a car that isn't too large — the roads are old, and the lanes in the small mountain villages can be very narrow.
