Wine and dine in Cefalù

Cefalù has a remarkable range of restaurants — pretty much every concept you can think of. Rock bars, beach clubs, lounges, steakhouses and wine bars. There are restaurants and bars built right out over the cliffs above the sea, where you can catch some of the most beautiful sunsets on the island. In addition to the classic Sicilian cousin, you will actually find a range of international restaurants as well. But the classic osterias and trattorias are definatly here if you know where to look, and the Sicilian food is amazing. These are our favourites — the ones we always come back to.

Ristorante Triscele

A classic Sicilian restaurant just outside the main core of Cefalù, but still very much in the centre. Genuinely warm and attentive staff, and food that is authentic, full of flavour and well executed. Highly recommended!

Osteria del Duomo dal 1979

This long-standing classic sits right on Piazza Duomo — the best seat in Cefalù, in our opinion. A restaurant that's been here for decades, and one that somehow manages to be genuinely friendly and give you good service even when the square is absolutely heaving. The food is excellent and well priced, and you can sit there for hours watching the whole of Cefalù walk past. We came back several times, partly for the people-watching, partly for the food.

Bordomari

This beautiful bar is built into the cliffside — a series of terraces and steps descending toward the sea. It gives you the most romantic sunset in Cefalù. Come here for an aperitivo before dinner, or just to sit and decompress after a day of walking the town. The sea is right there. Your shoulders drop. Views are extraordinary. The bar shares the views of the sea and the sunsets with the hotel Taliammari.

Le Calette Reef Club og Ristorante

Mamma Mia — one of our absolute favourites. This restaurant belongs to the beautiful Le Calette Boutique Resort, about 10 minutes by taxi from central Cefalù. The hotel in it self is worth a visit for a couple of days as well. If you want a day away from the crowds — swimming in a private turquoise bay, genuinely luxurious surroundings, a long lunch with views over the water — this is it.

You can book in as a day guest without staying at the hotel. Yes, it costs. But it is absolutely worth it. You're looked after, the food is excellent, the service matches. We've been back again and again. Book directly through their website.

B.I.F.

B.I.F. is a restaurant built around meat — from all over the world, grilled and prepared properly. If you love good steak, done the right way, this is your place in Cefalù. Nice inside, and seating out in the narrow streets too.

Enoteca Petit Tonneau

This tiny wine bar is wedged into the narrow lanes just down by the town beach. It's very small, serves local and Sicilian wine, and you can order a cheese and charcuterie plate - a classic aperitivo - to go with it. If you get there early enough to claim one of the few tables on the terrace, you'll be sitting with the beach and sea right beneath your feet. Low-key, relaxed, exactly what a good wine bar should be.

La Quercia Restaurant at Vallegrande Nature Resort

This is more like a day trip, but it's location is perfect if you have Cefalù as a base. Vallegrande Nature Resort sits high in the mountains above Cefalù — about 30 minutes by car. It's part of the Geocharme group (read more about our stay at Baglio la Porta). The restaurant belongs to the hotel, but you can reserve for lunch even if you're not a guest. If you want a short excursion and a meal in genuinely beautiful surroundings, Vallegrande is worth the drive. Exceptional food in an almost meditative setting.

La Cantina del Barone

A very welcoming wine bar and shop with a serious selection of local Sicilian wines. The people here are wonderful — warm, knowledgeable and generous with their recommendations. You can order small local dishes to eat on the spot, paired with whatever they suggest. You can also buy bottles to take with you.
