The Western Sicily

Western Sicily – The Egadi Islands, Wine and Long Sandy Beaches

Western Sicily includes the areas around Trapani, Marsala and Menfi, and is known for the Egadi Islands, wine production and long sandy beaches along the island’s southwest coast. Here you will find the island of Favignana, the Riserva dello Zingaro nature reserve and some of the most open and expansive beaches in Sicily.

This is a quieter and more spread-out region – ideal if you want to combine coastline, island life and wine.

Western Sicily surprised us. Distances are greater, the landscape more open and everyday life feels different from the southeast. This is part of what makes Sicily so fascinating – you can still sense the layers of history and the varied backgrounds of its people, changing so clearly from region to region and from town to town.

At the same time, you will find long sandy beaches, beautiful nature reserves and the Egadi Islands – such as Favignana – with their clear turquoise waters. It is an area that offers both stillness and wide horizons.
