Wine and dine on Favignana

Restaurants in Favignana — a guide to our favorite food experiences. The restaurants in Favignana are strung together like pearls — around small piazzas and along charming, narrow streets. During our week here, we found several places we truly fell for, and one special favorite where Else ended up ordering the same dish three times. She got hooked!

On our bike rides around the island, we also discovered a few cozy spots outside the center, well worth a visit. Here are our favorite dining experiences in Favignana.

Ristorante Sotto Sale – our absolute favorite in Favignana

Wow! This restaurant is something truly special. Here, Sicilian ingredients and food traditions are combined with Asian flavors — the result is an explosion that makes your taste buds sing.

This is where Else ended up ordering the same starter and main course three times during our stay. It was so good, she simply couldn’t pick anything else.

Everything here is fantastic. The food, the service, the atmosphere, and the warm, friendly welcome we received from the wonderful people who work here. On our last evening, they even surprised us with a little farewell gift — a tote bag and a jar of local capers to take home.

We absolutely love this place, and it’s without a doubt one of our very best dining experiences in Sicily!

Osteria Sotto Sale – a genuine osteria experience in Favignana

This place is a perfect example of the difference between a Ristorante and an Osteria. The team behind the restaurant we described above also runs this osteria. Here you’ll find simpler, more traditional Sicilian dishes — but with the same high quality and care.

We’ve visited several times, for both lunch and dinner, and every time the food and atmosphere have been spot on. The osteria is located on a lively street, right by Piazza Madrice — the perfect place to sit in the evening and watch the world go by.

We highly recommend this place if you want to taste authentic local dishes.

We still don’t know exactly how to describe "La Casa del Tonno" — but we liked it…

The first time we passed Casa del Tonno, we weren’t sure what we were looking at. Baskets, hats, wine crates, and products in what seemed like constant chaos. Is this a place to eat or a store? Behind all the things was a door, and inside we found a tiny shop selling wine, cheese, and cured meats. And in the evening? The place transforms — they serve wine and aperitivo on the wine crates outside in the street.

Curious, we looked up reviews online. The ratings were all over the place: some gave it one star, others five. Normally a bad sign — but in this case, it only made us more curious. We had to try it!

One evening we got a table (read: a crate) and ordered a big platter of cheese and cured meats, along with wine.

And what an experience! This is not a restaurant, osteria, taverna, or trattoria. It’s a delicatessen where the owner, in the evening, puts together high quality food from his shelves. We still don’t really know what Casa del Tonno is. But we know the cheese and cured meats were top quality, the wine was lovely, and the street vibe was magical. It’s something you just have to experience for yourself — and see if it strikes a chord.

Trattoria La Lampara

A classic family-run trattoria on Piazza Madrice, in the cozy square right in the heart of Favignana town. Popular with both locals and tourists, especially for breakfast and lunch. It’s busy, noisy, lively — usually a good sign. The food is traditional and classic dishes from Favignana and the surrounding area, high quality. We loved the tuna tartar.

REST — Cibo, Musica e Natura — Favignana’s hippie paradise

Ever wondered what it would be like if Fleetwood Mac, The Beatles, and Janis Joplin opened a bar together — on a Mediterranean island? Here’s your answer.

We stumbled across this place during one of our bike rides, and wow — what a unique spot! They call it “Cibo, Musica e Natura” — Food, Music, and Nature — and that’s exactly what it is.

A vibrant sanctuary for creative souls, in the middle of Favignana, far from beaches and seafood. There’s retro furniture, and from an old camper van they sell tunics, kaftans, and boho clothes. By day you can relax in a hammock or lounge on big cushions under the trees while enjoying lunch and aperitivos. A peaceful, green oasis.

When night falls, DJs take over, and you can dance under the trees, far out in the Favignana countryside. A truly one-of-a-kind place. They also offer transport to and from the town center.

Lido Punta Burrone

Favignana is full of beautiful beaches and beach clubs — and best of all, they’re perfect to explore by electric bike. You can cycle from beach to beach, swim in crystal-clear water, and stop wherever looks tempting.

Punta Burrone became a favorite of ours. A lovely, lively beach with clear, turquoise waters. The beach club has a beach bar and a simple, good lunch restaurant. Perfect for a long day of sun and swimming. We rented sunbeds here, and it’s easy to stay the whole day. Order an ice-cold drink, enjoy the sea view, and let time drift by.

Pozzo Ponente

The eastern side of Favignana, where the town is located, is filled with villas, roads, trails, and small farms. In the middle of the island rises a mountain that separates east and west — and over on the west side, you’ll find a completely different vibe. Here there are old farms, dusty country roads, and narrow paths perfect for exploring by bike.

All the way out by Pozzo Ponente we stumbled upon a small, laid-back bar that turned into the perfect lunch stop during one of our rides. Right between the beautiful cliffs and beaches, this little kiosk with a bar and simple food offers a slower pace — and where an ice-cold beer tastes extra good in the heat.

It’s one of those places you can’t really plan for. You just find it — and end up staying longer than you meant to.
