Where is Favignana?
In the azure waters just off the coast of Trapani, on Sicily’s western edge, you’ll find the stunning Egadi Islands. Favignana is the largest of the three islands. It’s home to the main harbor town of the same name, with the most infrastructure, restaurants, and accommodation options. Together with Levanzo and Marettimo, the Egadi Islands offer spectacular landscapes, crystal-clear waters, and countless swimming opportunities — just a short ferry ride from Trapani.
Why Visit Favignana?
In the summer, the Egadi Islands are a beloved holiday destination for Italians—and for good reason. Favignana is a paradise! Yet for many Northern Europeans, this is still an undiscovered gem. The island offers some of the most unique summer experiences in Sicily—quieter, more beautiful, and more authentic than many of the better-known destinations.
Getting to Trapani from Palermo
The nearest international airport is in Palermo, Sicily’s capital. From here, getting to Trapani is easy by bus. Regular departures leave both the airport and also the Palermo city center.
Bus company: Segesta Autolinee
Travel time: ~45 minutes from Palermo Airport / 1 hour 30 minutes from Palermo city
Route: Search for “Aeroporto - Palermo” or “Palermo” to “Trapani Porto”
Tip: Buy your ticket in advance from the website, especially during high season

Ferry to Favignana – How It Works
Ferries run several times daily from Trapani port to Favignana. The journey takes about 30 minutes by hydrofoil. While multiple companies operate the route, we recommend:
Ferry company: Liberty Lines
Boat type: Hydrofoil
Travel time: 30 minutes
Price: €11–€16 (one way, 2025)
Departure port: Trapani Porto
Tip: Buy tickets directly from the ferry company in advance to avoid fees and queues. Ferries arrive at Favignana’s charming fishing harbor. Most accommodations in the center are within walking distance. For places further inland, we recommend having your host arrange transport in advance.
How to Get Around on Favignana?
Favignana is small and easy to explore. The harbor town is charming and walkable, with narrow streets, local piazzas, and most restaurants. But there’s so much more to discover beyond the town. Set aside several days to explore the island by bike. This is the best way to reach the most beautiful beaches, quiet country roads, and hidden gems—like beach clubs and local bars.
On foot: Perfect for exploring town and nearby beaches
By bike or e-bike: The best way to explore! Several rental shops are available in town. Scooters are also an option, but many roads are unpaved gravel.
When Is the Best Time to Visit Favignana?
Best time: May–June and September–October (fewer tourists, pleasant temperatures)
High season: July–August (crowds, higher accommodation and rental prices)
Winter season: Very quiet but still possible to visit. Locals live on the island year-round, but many restaurants close for the winter.
